Prepare the gift card in Shopify#
- Create a gift card product using Shopify’s gift-card functionality.
- Set the denominations and product media in Shopify.
- Preview it with the gift-card product template or a product layout containing the recipient block.
- Add/show Gift card recipient in Product page if customers should send the gift to someone else.
- Review denomination selection, recipient validation and the resulting cart properties using appropriate test details.
Recipient fields#
The recipient interface is conditional on a gift-card product and its configured block. It offers supported recipient information such as email, name, message and a send date. Do not promise delivery timing without testing Shopify’s actual gift-card delivery setup.
Two different templates#
| Template | Purpose |
|---|---|
| product.gift-card | The storefront product layout where a customer selects and purchases a denomination. |
| gift_card.liquid | The issued gift-card page. It is different from the sales PDP and needs an actual issued card to test. |
Scheduled delivery and buying controls#
The date picker accepts today through 90 days ahead using the customer’s local calendar. The send date is optional; Shopify handles delivery after purchase. When Send as a gift is selected, accelerated checkout is hidden so customers use Add to cart and recipient validation. Turning the option off restores the configured accelerated checkout presentation.
Before launch#
- Ensure FAQ copy refers to your available denominations, not demo amounts or a hardcoded currency.
- Remove fictional demo descriptions from your store’s product data when using real products.
- Test recipient email validation and scheduled delivery behavior with an eligible gift card product.
- A theme block does not issue a gift card by itself or change Shopify’s delivery rules.
